University City’s flag football team battled its way to a hard-fought 26-19 victory over Santana, combining a strong running game with a defense that made big plays when they mattered most.

Keke Washington led the way offensively, rushing for 151 yards and two touchdowns to keep the Centurions moving throughout the game. Quarterback Autumn Denson also found the end zone through the air, connecting with Jasmine Herrera on a 15-yard touchdown pass.

The Centurions’ defense was the difference-maker, forcing four turnovers and making it difficult for Santana to establish any rhythm. Denson and Chloe Holguin each came away with two interceptions, while Holguin added the biggest defensive play of the night by returning one of her interceptions for a touchdown.

With contributions on both sides of the ball, University City was able to withstand a strong effort from Santana and finish with the 26-19 victory.
